Welcome to Josh Kim dot Org

This is only a dry run of the system. I’ll start posting worthwhile articles, but an actual update will be complete by November 26th. I’m currently designing the layout, as well as what joshkim.org will cover.

Currently, it’s going to be split into two sections. One for technology news, and the other for more personal issues. I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before, but I think this separation actually works pretty well. Only time will tell if I might have to rework the categories.

Apple… Please Hire Me?

I’m not sure if people know this… but after 4 phone interviews (recruiter, manager of group, one person I’ll be working with, and someone who works with the group from London), I’m still in the wait mode with Apple.

I muscled up the little courage I have to email them one last time… saying… I’ll just move on, knowing that they know what’s best for them. I had called and emailed before with no response, so I thought this would also fall on deaf… fingers?

I got an email in half a day, saying things were still “very positive”, and that the project manager has been busy with project releases. Wow. Is there hope yet?

MacBook Pro EFI Firmware Update 1.2… Causes Problems?

I’ve heard that it causes computers to not be able to start up again… but I don’t know if anyone else in the WORLD is having the same problem I’m having right now.

I must have run the installer 8 times. Every single time, the computer beeps (and very loudly… it scared the crap out of me thinking I messed up my computer AGAIN… [sidenote: for some reason, I really believe that the 10.4.8 b0rked my ACPI settings… and had to go into the Genius Bar to get it fixed… but they don’t know what cause it in the first place), but alas, that was just part of the installation process.

I saw a glimpse of the bar that SHOULD pop up when you do a firmware update… the black and white bar that pops up (the same that pops up for iPod firmware updates). At first, I thought that the update happened so quickly that my eyes FPS wasn’t fast enough, and all I saw was an empty bar, then 10% of a bar, then a restart.

After the second, third, fourth… eighth time, I realize that something’s amiss. I don’t know what it is, but I haven’t seen it reported ANYWHERE else on the google. It’s strange… I wonder if this is another one of those Genius Bar trips.

It’s ingenious though… if something breaks down, you can just travel to your nearest Apple store. While you’re there, and am frustrated out of your mind, you get to look at the soothing white walls… and all the pretty iPods and people shopping. Somehow, your mind relaxes…

I remember the Chicago Apple Store… the Genius bar was upstairs, facing away from the pretty work-of-art staircase. Maybe there’s a reason why the Genius bar is so hard to get to.
