$51 for THIS?

I cannot believe I had to pay $51 fix my computer… when all was wrong was one stick of memory.

I was told that I wouldn’t have to pay for anything… that the Apple warranty would have covered everything. However, when I returned back to the store “C U Computing”, I was given this spiel about how since it was 3rd party memory… and that Apple wouldn’t reimburse them for this repair.

If this was the case, I would have illegally procured the ProTools disk, and freaking figured out the issue myself. How the heck is putting a CD into a computer, finding out the problem, and removing memory worth $51?

I kind of blame myself for not reading the fine print for non-Apple hardware issues… but there was no fine print to read. I understand why Apple would be this way… but I wasn’t aware of anything like this when I gave them my computer. Which led me to think about something more general: I can’t believe how much people are paying for troubleshooting computers. This fix probably took about 30 seconds, and they made $51. I guess I’m that much clueless when it comes to cars…

These technicians are making a FORTUNE. Both computer and auto.

One lesson learned: if possible, trust Apple. If it’s cheap enough, just go and buy all Apple parts to achieve peace of mind. But… do your cost-benefit analysis first.
