Welcome To The Microsoft Store

Does this feel really eerie? I’ve heard that the MS Store was going to be similar to the Apple Store, but wow. The huge glass façade, floors, tables, the employees with their bright-colored shirts… I did notice the nice screens wrapping the walls, though, that was a nice touch. I expect BSODs to be wonderfully hilarious. ;-)

But this goes into a larger issue with Microsoft’s strategy in trying to copy the best of Apple. Sure, at first glance, it feels great, but I wonder if their version of the Genius Bar won’t require you to reserve a spot months in advance.

  1. Aye, eerie was definitely the prominent emotion while watching it.

I suppose the same argument stands here as does in most of Apple’s endeavors and strategies these days — Working to maintain a 1-2 year lead on all their competitors, so they’re now pushing towards totally reworking all their stores to the next “level.”

Still haven’t seen iPhones or iPods Touch used for wireless purchases / POS’ yet, but with iPhone activation in-store and the Consultant / Business Advisors, etc I think we can still clearly see the edge going to Apple even in this copying of the store mold.

  2. Saw this video posted elsewhere… I can’t even bring myself to watch it. I just know the icky copycat mojo would leave a bad taste all day. :\
