Apple Tax Day: Macworld: ONE MORE THING

  • MacBook Air. Gorgeous. I’m going to sit here and figure out how to justify this purchase.
  • “The World’s Thinnest Notebook”? The Sony Vaio had it pretty close the last time I checked. But then again, the last time I checked was when I had a Vaio. The Vaio TZ: “3 lbs, .8-1.2 inches, 11 or 12″ display, miniature keyboard, and slower processor.”
  • “MacBook Air is 0.16″ to 0.76″. The thickest part of the MacBook Air is thinner than the thinnest part of the Sony. It fits inside a envelope.” How is this even possible?
  • 13.3″ display. LED backlit. iSight.
  • The kicker is the multi-touch display. The programmability of this feature alone warrants a purchase, right? Darn you, desktop applications and your ability to actually do more useful things that web applications.
  • Now, please give me the stats…
  • 1.8″ Hard Drive, as expected. 80 GB… kinda sounds like my old PowerBook. SSD as an option.
  • 1.6 Ghz, 1.8 option. Core 2 Duo. Pretty darn fast.
  • Come on $2K price point. Come on…
  • Not liking the fat border around the screen. But then again, some of the volume of the computer has to go somewhere…
  • 60% size shrinkage of processor. INSANE.
  • Black keys? Whoa.
  • PRICE. GIVE ME THE PRICE.
  • 45 Watts. Hooray for low power consumption.
  • Looks like there’s going to be 4 output holes. Power. USB. Micro-DVI. Audio Out.
  • 802.11n. Hmm.
  • PRICE PRICE PRICE.
  • “Also, software comes with the MacBook Air that allows you to “borrow” a Mac or PCs optical drive.” WOW. That’s. Pretty sweet programming.
  • 5 Hours Battery lfe. That is definitely amazing. No other thin laptops give you more than like 3 hours the last time I checked.
  • 2 GB. Standard. Delicious.
  • $1799.

Uh. Oh…

Apple Tax Day: MacWorld

So it came and went. No big surprises, except for #4. Which is going to be another post. Because I’m dying in anticipation.

  1. Time Capsule/Full Airport Extreme
    • Nice. I’m probably going to be buying a second mac, and so, Time Capsule will be nice to have. One less cord to attach my laptop to.
    • Full Airport Extreme… not so much. Why can’t I just hook an external HD to a regular Airport Extreme…
  2. iPhone/iPod Touch
    • SDK: Time to learn Cocoa in a month and a half. Hooray.
    • Expected: Maps (Extra Sweet), SMS multiple people (Meh), Webclips (Kinda Sweet), Customized Home Screen (Sweet)
    • iPod Touch: $20 to get 5 applications? Meh.
  3. iTunes Rentals/Apple TV
    • Every major studio: Touchstone, Miramax, MGM, Lionsgate, Newline, Fox, WB, Disney, Paramount, Universal, Sony. Hooray.
    • I might use it. Freaking, on the iPhone, too? My goodness. I can rent movies on the JesusPhone?
    • Ooh. 30 days to start watching, 24 hours to finish. An interesting take on the broken online movie rental market.
    • YES. $2.99 for older, $3.99 for new. Cheaper than expected. I don’t see anything about HD content, though.
    • Later this year… what a letdown.
    • APPLE TV WOO HOO. Is this my second mac? (With silly hacking intended, of course.)
      • Do people even use .mac? I’m probably going to be getting my Photos from Flickr anyway.
    • AH HA! HD! HD! $4.99 isn’t too bad. For one night’s fun with a bunch of friends: perfect.
    • Oh? Just a software update?
      • Price drop: $229. Woot.
    • Software: 2 weeks.

Continuing the Fight

Realizing more and more how much I lack… but realizing how much more there is to gain.

Started the work week definitely strong. I don’t know how, but I got up 20 minutes before my alarm hit. It was an angry 20 minutes of sleep, but I guess it helped a bit.

From 7:30 to 3, I worked straight through, without a lunch break. Afterwards… wow… I definitely was tired. I caught up on some XMan (Korean Variety Show), and headed for WIMPE. All this week, Dan Sun and I will be doing some much needed cardio. I definitely missed out on that while Dean was here…

Derek, why don’t you return my facebook posts? Boo! I’m going to call this one after work tomorrow to see if he wants to hang out… oh wait, after WIMPE.

I wonder if I should go into work tomorrow or Wednesday. I feel very tired… I didn’t get my 20 minutes of happiness.

Ah, and so now we’re into the meat of the post.

As I dropped off Dan with his groceries, I stopped by Gil’s apartment. Gil was a roommate I had my senior year… it was a pleasure of having this older brother still on campus… And this is when I realized my lesson of the day: It’s not about crying about what you don’t have, or just making do with what you do have. It’s about being so utterly thankful for EVERYTHING, in lack of or in abundance of ANYTHING… It can’t be one extreme or another. You can’t just be down on yourself for what you don’t have… but also you can’t be satisfied with just what you do have, and never reach out farther than you’re used to. Okay, in that last sentence, I mistyped “your”. Oh holy crap I’m getting tired.

Right, so let’s keep going with the brain on autopilot and run through a couple of things.

Backs and shoulders day cannot go after biceps and forearms. There must be something in between. Legs should be the fourth day in the regimen, and could be used as a break in between these two. Tomorrow starts up triceps and chest… Maybe the new schedule should be…

Chest/Triceps, Biceps/Forearms, Legs/More Abs Than Normal/Rest, Backs/Shoulders. For each day, have abs and cardio. Alternate between distance running (either on elliptical or track) and short distance (1 mile) per day.

Hooray for lifting gloves. Not only was WIMPE $130, but the gloves $10. More reason to go lifting… use that inner stingy Asian man!

And… I have nothing to report for today. Man… I need to get some time to myself and start writing some technical stuff.

Oh, and, MacWorld is tomorrow. It’s gotta be iPhone and iTV, but less so the iTV. Meh.

Might as well continue with the list.

I’m falling behind on the Bible reading. Gotta catch up slowly but surely.

Starting up back again for foreign languages. Daily… just like the Word.

Oh freaking rails… how much more I want to learn you.

If you’ve read this until now… wow, I feel loved. But really, you didn’t have to do that…
